Tata Consultancy Services, or TCS, has secured a five-year partnership with Tata Motors to power the automotive giant’s sustainability journey.
The collaboration centers on the deployment of Tata Motors’ proprietary platform, Prakriti, which is underpinned by the AI-driven TCS Intelligent Urban Exchange (IUX) solution.
Prakriti is designed to digitize vast amounts of ESG data, moving away from traditional manual processes. It will enable real-time monitoring and automated ESG compliance reporting and provide advanced, data-driven insights. This digitalization effort aims to drive measurable environmental impact and accountability across all of Tata Motors’ manufacturing plants and its wider value chain in India.
Meeting climate targets:
Tata Motors is committed to ambitious climate goals, including achieving net-zero emissions for its passenger vehicles by 2040 and commercial vehicles by 2045. The company’s sustainability agenda also prioritizes pioneering circular economies, preserving nature, and protecting biodiversity.
According to SJR Kutty, Chief Sustainability Officer, Tata Motors, “This partnership is critical for integrating intelligence and automation into their sustainability journey, which is anchored in the Tata Group’s ‘Project Aalingana’ approach. The system is configured to enhance decision-making across complex domains like carbon accounting, product footprinting, and climate risk management, ensuring the company is resilient and future-ready.”
Embedding intelligence across the value chain:
A major focus of the Prakriti platform is simplifying compliance with strict mandates, such as SEBI’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) framework.
Rajesh Kannan, CEO, Tata Motors Digital.AI Labs Ltd., noted that the new digital “sustainability spine” will provide robust data and analytics to ensure environmentally responsible operations and greater transparency.
The adaptability of TCS IUX to automotive-specific requirements will be crucial in extending the sustainability strategy beyond the manufacturing floor. The platform will drive transformation and align the company’s ecosystem—including employees, suppliers, and dealers—with Tata Motors’ overall vision for a cleaner and more responsible value chain.
