In the evolving world of business, sustainable workspaces are no longer a trend but a vital strategy for a healthier planet and a productive workforce.
CII-IGBC and the Confederation of Danish Industry have released a landmark report. Titled “Sustainable Workspace,” it
is a first-of-its-kind global study. Backed by IIM Ahmedabad, the research provides data-driven proof on the impact of
green buildings.
Key findings:
The report’s findings provide compelling evidence that green building practices directly correlate with enhanced business performance and employee well-being.
A 1% increase in the Green Index (a composite of indoor environment quality and comfort) leads to:
3% increase in employee thriving.
2% increase in employee engagement.
3% enhancement in physical well-being.
A 1% increase in indoor environment quality results in a:
7% increase in employee engagement.
2% increase in thriving.
Improved Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), which includes factors like temperature, lighting, noise, humidity, and CO2, boosts psychological vitality, learning, and organizational performance.
The findings confirm that sustainable workspaces deliver higher employee satisfaction, well-being, and organizational profitability across varying climatic and cultural zones in India.
Call for action for stakeholders:
The report provides clear guidance for business leaders, developers, and policymakers on how to implement these findings. These include:
Prioritize IEQ and comfort in both new and existing workplaces.
Integrate measurable green metrics in design and operations.
Assess workspaces with evidence-based tools to drive employee engagement and organizational success.
The project involved extensive research across several Indian cities.
- Over 1,100 occupant responses
- More than 900 indoor environment quality data points
