Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd., or SECI.
Tripathi is replacing Santosh Kumar Sarangi, who had been holding the additional charge of the post since the termination of former SECI MD Rameshwar Prasad Gupta.
Gupta’s services were terminated with immediate effect by the government ahead of his tenure completion.
SECI is a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment, which temporarily upgrades the post to the level of Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
Prior to this appointment, Tripathi was serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power. He has a diverse background with experience in digital governance and public administration. His previous roles include MD & CEO of Digital India Corporation, CEO of India Semiconductor Mission, and CEO of MyGov.in.
In his home cadre of Madhya Pradesh, he worked extensively in areas such as e-governance, energy reforms, IT-driven citizen services, and rural development. Tripathi holds a B.E. in Electronics and an MBA in Finance.
Tripathi’s appointment comes at a crucial time as India aims for 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. His combined experience in the power sector, renewable energy, and digital governance is expected to strengthen SECI’s mandate in project execution and sectoral reforms.
His policy background and on-the-ground administrative experience are anticipated to help SECI address investment challenges and scale up large renewable projects, including solar parks, hybrid projects, green hydrogen, and battery storage.
