Salesforce Backs Nineteen Startups To Scale Carbon Removal

Salesforce Backs Nineteen Startups To Scale Carbon Removal

Indian climate-tech pioneers Takachar and Planboo are among 19 global suppliers that have secured major carbon removal pre-purchase agreements with Salesforce.

Facilitated by the climate platform Milkywire, the deals total $5 million and cover more than 12,500 tons of durable carbon removal.

The initiative targets the valley of death—the funding gap for early-stage technologies that are not yet ready for high-volume, mainstream buyers.

India’s decentralized innovation:

Leading the India-based cohort, Takachar is scaling portable equipment that converts agricultural waste into biochar on-site. By intercepting biomass that would otherwise be burned—a major source of air pollution in Northern India—Takachar locks carbon into a stable soil amendment for centuries.

Joining them is Planboo/Carboneers, which operates a decentralized model in India and Ghana. They provide smallholder farmers with low-emission kilns and digital monitoring tools (dMRV) to turn crop residues into verified carbon credits, directly increasing rural incomes.

Global supplier network:

The portfolio spans 15 countries and includes the following suppliers categorized by technology. The largest tonnage allocations in this round were awarded to Interholco AG, PyroCCS, and Carbonsate.

While India leads the narrative, the Salesforce portfolio creates a global network of diverse removal pathways. The other seventeen startups joining the mission include

Direct Air Capture (DAC): High-tech atmospheric extraction led by Arbon (USA), NeoCarbon (Germany), Norma (France), Octavia Carbon (Kenya), and Ucaneo (Germany).

Enhanced Rock Weathering: Accelerating natural mineral cycles via Flux (Kenya), InPlanet (Brazil), and ZeroEx (Germany).

Biochar & Biomass: Scaling natural sequestration through Interholco AG (Congo), PyroCCS (Namibia), Releaf Earth (Nigeria), and WasteX (Indonesia).

Advanced Mineralization: Innovative storage solutions from Carbonsate (Namibia), Karbonetiq (USA), Planeteers (Germany), Carbon Removers (Germany), and Kairos Carbon (UK).

The Salesforce narrative:

For Salesforce, these agreements are a cornerstone of its commitment as a founding member of the First Movers Coalition (FMC).

The company has pledged to contract for $100 million in carbon removal solutions by 2030. These 19 deals represent a portfolio approach, diversifying across six distinct carbon removal pathways to mitigate the risk of the future supply chain.

“To tackle climate change at the pace required, companies need to invest in solutions before they are fully proven at scale,” said Jamila Yamani, Director, Climate and Energy, Salesforce. “Through our collaboration with Milkywire, we are helping move durable carbon removal from concept toward commercial reality.”

Robert Höglund, Head, Climate Strategy, Milkywire, noted that the portfolio reflects a buyer willing to support “uncertainty, learning, and first-of-a-kind deployments.”

The platform has already opened the next global call for proposals, with additional catalytic purchases for Salesforce scheduled to be announced later in 2026.
