ReNew Energy Global Plc, a provider of decarbonization solutions, has been named India’s highest-rated energy company in S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).

Global benchmarking:

ReNew achieved a score of 83, the highest ever registered by any India-based energy company, solidifying its position as a global sustainability leader.

The score places ReNew in the 93rd percentile globally, ranking it among the top 10% of energy companies assessed worldwide. This is the first time an Indian energy company has crossed the 80-point threshold in this internationally respected benchmark for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

In a press release, the company said that the score of 83 reflects a ~14% year-on-year improvement and a remarkable 102% increase since its debut in the CSA in FY22. The company made significant strides across all pillars of sustainability:

Social Performance: Saw an approximate 27% improvement.

Governance: Improved by roughly 23%.

Environment: Increased by 6%.

These gains highlight ReNew’s strategic commitment to integrating sustainability across its operations, covering critical areas like climate strategy, corporate governance, ethics, and workforce development.

Commitment to clean energy and social impact:

ReNew’s performance is backed by concrete action in its operations. In FY25, the company generated over 22 billion kWh of clean energy, avoiding more than 18.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions. The company maintained carbon neutrality for the fifth consecutive year, having achieved an 18.2% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its FY22 baseline. Furthermore, it now sources 76% of its electricity from renewables, ahead of its 50% target for 2025.

Beyond environmental stewardship, ReNew also made significant headway in social impact and diversity:

Water Stewardship: Saved over 540 million liters of water, a 50% increase from the previous year, progressing towards its goal of becoming water-positive by 2030.

Diversity and Inclusion: Reached a 16% gender diversity rate, with women holding 40% of board positions.

Social Initiatives: Its community initiatives have positively impacted over 1.7 million lives.

Vaishali Nigam Sinha, co-Founder and Chairperson, Sustainability, ReNew, said, “At ReNew, sustainability is not peripheral; it is central to how we unlock value, drive efficiency, and grow responsibly.”
