Infosys Tracks Hybrid Staff Home Power Use

69 0

In a major sustainability push, Infosys has launched a comprehensive internal survey to track the electricity consumption of employees working from home. As the IT giant cements its hybrid work model—requiring staff to be in the office for at least 10 days a month—it is now accounting for the invisible carbon footprint generated in residential spaces. This data collection is part of a broader 15-year environmental strategy to maintain carbon neutrality.

This initiative ensures that the energy used at an employee’s home desk is accounted for in the company’s path toward becoming climate positive by 2030.

Refining scope 3 data:

The survey represents a critical update to the data first gathered in 2020. Employees are asked to provide granular details about their home setups, including the wattage of lights, the use of air conditioners, fans, and heaters, and the power requirements of essential work equipment like routers and monitors. By identifying these Scope 3 emissions—indirect emissions that occur in the company’s value chain—Infosys intends to calculate precisely how much renewable energy it must generate or offset to maintain its six-year streak of carbon neutrality.

In an internal communication distributed to staff in late January 2026, Jayesh Sanghrajka, Chief Financial Officer of Infosys, emphasized that corporate responsibility no longer stops at the office gates:

“With hybrid work becoming an integral part of our operations, the environmental impact of our work increasingly extends beyond our campuses and into our homes. Electricity consumed while working from home also contributes towards Infosys’ greenhouse gas emission footprint.”

Privacy and sustainability awareness:

Infosys has clarified that the data is collected to assess aggregate energy consumption and will not be used to track individual behavior or productivity. Beyond data points, the exercise serves as an awareness campaign, encouraging employees to adopt energy-efficient habits at home that mirror the efficiency of Infosys’ own green-certified campuses. The company currently sources nearly 78% of its India operations’ electricity from renewable sources and aims to use this new data to further scale its captive solar and wind power plants.
