The Indian Charge Point Operators Association, or ICPOA, has unveiled a new strategy to establish charging as the essential foundation for widespread EV adoption, highlighting the critical role of industry collaboration, policy advocacy, and building consumer trust.
ICPOA vision:
The ICPOA announced a new, multi-pronged strategy at a recent EV Charging Conclave 2025.
According to Awadhesh Kumar Jha, Executive Director of Glida and Chairman of ICPOA, “Our journey began with a clear need: charging was treated as a footnote, not as the foundation of EV adoption. ICPOA was created to put charging at the center of India’s mobility transition.”
Key goals:
Industry collaboration and policy advocacy: The ICPOA aims to unite CPOs, manufacturers, and other stakeholders to influence policy, create practical standards, and foster cooperation across the ecosystem.
Consumer trust and experience: A major focus is on building consumer confidence by addressing the gap between installed capacity and operational reliability. Initiatives include the ‘Know Your Battery’ (KYB) program and a commitment to ensuring high station uptime and seamless payments for users.
Net-zero and renewable energy: The strategy calls for aligning the deployment of charging infrastructure with India’s net-zero targets by integrating renewable energy sources into charging stations.
The ICPOA’s efforts are designed to ensure that the charging ecosystem can keep pace with India’s accelerating EV adoption, which saw over 1.5 million EV sales across all categories in fiscal year 2024.
