India’s wind energy industry, supported by strong policy and a future-ready industrial base, is poised to drive green growth and contribute to the nation’s economic development.

India’s wind energy sector is boosting investments in manufacturing, technology, and workforce development to achieve its ambitious 100 GW target by 2030.

With over 50 GW installed, the industry is ready to scale up production, promote ‘Make in India,’ and generate jobs, according to the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA).

IWTMA underscored the industry’s preparedness to increase manufacturing, back the “Make in India” campaign, and create significant jobs during a recent high-level meeting with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

According to the association, India now has an annual domestic production capacity of over 18 GW for wind turbines and related components.

With hiring in the renewable energy sector expected to increase by 19% in FY25, the wind energy industry is also becoming a significant employer. Wind is anticipated to have a major impact on manufacturing, installation, operations, and maintenance activities.

The wind industry offers a viable career path for young people in India’s renewable energy economy, as over 55% of the workforce is between the ages of 26 and 35, according to IWTMA.

Major corporations like Suzlon, Nordex, Senvion, Envision, Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, GE Vernova, Inox Wind, ZF Wind Power, Flender, Windar, and Aditya Birla Advanced Materials manufacture crucial wind turbine components in India.

The robust ecosystem bolsters the nation’s potential as a global wind energy export hub and addresses the increasing domestic demand.

IWTMA also emphasized the need for enhanced infrastructure, testing facilities, streamlined rules, and continuous policy support to realize the sector’s potential.

“The Indian wind industry is fully aligned with the government’s clean energy vision. We are investing in capacity, technology innovation, and workforce development to achieve 100 GW of wind energy by 2030,” Aditya Pyasi, CEO, IWTMA, said in an interview with PTI.
