The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially crossed a historic threshold, with over 10,000 companies globally now operating with validated science-based climate targets.
This milestone marks a significant acceleration in corporate climate accountability, shifting the focus from vague pledges to rigorous, data-backed transition plans that align with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement.
Mainstreaming the 1.5°C standard:
The surge in adoptions spans every major industrial sector, with a notable increase in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) alongside Fortune 500 giants. Validated SBTi targets align corporate decarbonization with climate science, offering a gold standard for credible ESG performance.
“Reaching 10,000 validated companies is a testament to the growing realization that science-based targets are no longer optional but essential for business resilience,” said Luiz Amaral, CEO, SBTi. “We have moved from an era of ambition to an era of accountability, where companies must demonstrate real-world progress against the most rigorous standards available.”
