Leading renewable energy developer ReNew Energy has formalized a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google LLC, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. Under this agreement, ReNew Energy will develop a new 150 MW solar photovoltaic project.
The project located in Rajasthan is designed to supply clean energy directly to Google’s operations. This collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to advancing sustainable energy infrastructure in the region.
Vrushali Gaud, global director, climate operations at Google said, “ It (agreement) brings new solar capacity onto the grid in a key region, and helps address challenging portions of our value chain emissions.”
Strategic Significance
This agreement advances Google’s commitment to achieving 24/7 carbon-free energy operations by 2030. It aligns with India’s national target to expand non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW by 2030, supporting the country’s energy transition ambitions.
Similar initiatives by US hyperscalers, including Amazon and Microsoft, underscore the growing momentum in corporate procurement of renewables to decarbonize data center operations amid rising global demand.
The 150 MW solar project, scheduled for commissioning in 2026, is expected to generate about 425,000 megawatt hours of clean electricity annually, which the firm said is equivalent to powering over 360,000 Indian households.
ReNew is among India’s largest independent power producers but listed in the US, and has a clean energy portfolio of about 18.5 GW as of early 2025.
