Nxtra by Airtel, a data center company and a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has released its Sustainability Report for FY 2024-25, showcasing significant progress in its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.
The report highlights the company’s commitment to building intelligent, scalable, and sustainable digital infrastructure.
Key environmental achievements:
Nxtra by Airtel achieved a 15% higher emission reduction year-on-year, totaling 188,507 tCO2e reductions. A key driver for this was the sourcing of 49% of the energy from renewable alternatives across its core data center facilities. The company also contracted a significant 482,800 MWh of renewable energy, a threefold increase from its 2021 baseline.
Furthermore, Nxtra reduced its average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by 10% compared to the FY 2021 baseline and became the first data center in India to join the global RE100 initiative, committing to using 100% renewable energy for all its operations. The company is also leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance energy efficiency and operational performance.
Advancing social inclusion:
The company’s commitment to social progress is evident in the remarkable 130% growth in its women workforce under the NxtWave initiative. This talent development program is specifically designed to increase the representation of women in engineering roles. Nxtra also reported an impressive employee engagement score of 85 out of 100, and achieved 6.15 million safe person-hours in construction.
Strengthening governance and operations:
On the governance front, Nxtra reinforced its commitment to a resilient and transparent supply chain. The company reported that 99% of its suppliers are based in India, strengthening local economies. Additionally, it conducted ESG assessments for 98% of its strategic suppliers to ensure sustainability across the value chain.
Nxtra by Airtel operates the largest network of data centers in India, with over 14 large facilities and more than 120 edge data centers across the country.
