Levi Strauss & Co. has launched the LS&Co. Energy Accelerator Program (LEAP), a key initiative to accelerate the adoption of renewable electricity among its global supply chain partners.
Developed in partnership with Schneider Electric, the program directly addresses the largest part of the company’s carbon footprint, aiming to meet its science-based target of a 42% absolute reduction in supply chain (scope-3) emissions by 2030 and its long-term ambition of net-zero emissions by 2050.
India rollout and supplier support:
The initial phase of LEAP is rolling out in India, a major sourcing market for the company, to support textile and apparel manufacturers.
The program is designed to lower the financial and technical barriers for suppliers by providing access to favorable renewable energy pricing, tailored investment terms, and expert guidance. Suppliers can pursue options like on-site solar, renewable energy certificates, or joining group power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Thought leadership:
Jeffrey Hogue, Chief Sustainability Officer, LS&Co, said, “We are committed to incentivizing renewable energy in our supply chain and know our path to our near-term supply chain emissions reduction target is through proven, scalable solutions that fit each supplier. Between Schneider Electric’s expertise and the robust network of renewable electricity opportunities available in India, we’re now in a position to better support our suppliers in their own sustainability strategies—and to deliver on ours.”
Steve Wilhite, President, Sustainability Business, Schneider Electric, said, “Accelerating the transition to renewable energy across global supply chains is essential to achieving meaningful climate impact. We’re proud to partner with Levi Strauss & Co. on the LEAP initiative, which exemplifies how companies can lead with purpose and scale proven solutions to empower their suppliers.”
