Greenko has announced world’s first and largest GW-scale integrated RE project in Andhra Pradesh.

The $4.2 billion integrated RE project combines 4 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind power generation components with 1.68 GW/10.08 GWh pumped hydro storage

The project cost comprises $1.2 billion for the pumped storage component and $3 billion for the solar and wind generation infrastructure.

With a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh per day in a single cycle, the dispatchable, carbon-free energy generation of the Pinnapuram project supports green steel, green aluminum, and green hydrogen production industries.

Anil Chalamalasetty, Group CEO & MD, Greenko, said, “The groundbreaking initiative, combining solar, wind, and pumped storage power, will make a vital contribution to global efforts to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. The project would drive economic growth in the region, foster the development of ancillary industries, and create employment opportunities. It will help in clean energy generation, avoiding 3.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually, and enhance India’s energy security.”

Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy, who toured the facility, said, “Witnessing an integrated RE storage project in action is a matter of pride and a shining example of India’s green energy potential under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The minister also commended the state government of Andhra Pradesh, under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, for its progressive policies that have made this pioneering effort possible.

Greenko is one of India’s leading energy transition and decarbonization solutions companies, with an operational capacity of nearly 12 GW across wind, solar, hydro, and pumped storage. By 2030, Greenko aims to expand its portfolio to 50 GW.
