The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects across DRDO campuses nationwide.
The MoU was exchanged at DRDO Bhawan, in the presence of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, and Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE.
The partnership aims to establish self-reliant, Net-Zero DRDO campuses by 2027 and reduce dependence on conventional power. SECI will oversee the planning and execution of solar projects at identified DRDO sites, supporting the government’s objective to decarbonize defense infrastructure and strengthen energy security.
The initiative aligns with India’s Net-Zero 2070 commitment and promotes sustainable operations within strategic research establishments.
Earlier, DRDO, in collaboration with the Integrated Defence Staff and Tri-Services, released the Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) standard 1.0 to enable interoperability in military communication and advance indigenous, software-defined radio technologies.
