The Deendayal Port Authority (Kandla Port), or DPA, is constructing a center of excellence for green hydrogen.

DPA had invited online bids for the project, estimated to cost Rs 75 crore. It is likely to be completed 10 months after the developer wins the bid.

The CoE will be located on a plot adjacent to the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Convention Center.

The scope of work includes the construction of a pre-engineered building (PEB) featuring drywall partitions, interior furnishings, plumbing, electrical installations, acoustics, audio-visual systems, internal roads, and landscaping with all allied facilities.

The facility must comply with green building standards as per IGBC/GRIHA guidelines.

The project also involves preparing structural plans and detailed architectural designs for the CoE, which must be approved by the relevant authorities.

The plans will cover civil, structural, architectural, interior, and furniture layouts, along with provisions for sanitation, water supply, fire safety, landscaping, complete electrification, CCTV installation, and air conditioning systems.

The initiative is a part of the Smart Port project, spanning 6 km of waterfront, and aims to increase cargo-handling capacity by 135 MMTPA at a cost of Rs 27,000 cr.

It must be noted that India is planning a mega shipbuilding cluster at Kandla Port, involving a shipbuilding yard, marina, fishing harbor, and township, with an investment of Rs 30,000 crore, aiming to enhance India’s maritime trade capabilities and position it on global trade routes.
