Hindustan Unilever Limited, or HUL, has announced the merger of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Committee with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee.
The move, effective today, aims to create a cohesive governance framework and strengthen the alignment between the FMCG major’s sustainability and social impact strategies.
New committee:
Yesterday, the Board of Directors approved the consolidation, and creating the unified CSR-ESG Committee. The new body will oversee all HUL’s initiatives, disclosures, and compliance related to both CSR and ESG matters. Non-Executive Independent Director Tarun Bajaj will chair the committee, with Neelam Dhawan and Ranjay Gulati, also Non-Executive Independent Directors, serving as members.
Streamlining oversight:
This integration reflects HUL’s commitment to embed sustainability into its core business strategy, simplifying decision-making and reinforcing responsible growth.
It must be noted that HUL spent Rs 234 crore on CSR and ESG activities in the last fiscal year (FY24). The consolidated committee will drive ongoing initiatives, including plastic waste management and women’s empowerment, while ensuring compliance with evolving sustainability reporting standards.
