The Global Automotive Research Centre, or GARC, a division of NAB and an autonomous body under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Easy Green Mobility Ltd. (EGM).
The partnership is set to accelerate the development, testing, and certification of EGM’s upcoming range of electric buses, marking a crucial step forward for the “Make in India” initiative in the electric mobility sector.
The collaboration will see EGM leverage GARC’s state-of-the-art testing infrastructure and technical expertise for the homologation and certification of its new electric buses.
As a premier automotive testing and R&D center, GARC provides a comprehensive suite of facilities, including dedicated labs for electric and hybrid vehicle testing, which are essential for ensuring that new vehicles meet stringent national and international safety and performance standards.
“This partnership with Easy Green Mobility is a testament to our commitment to fostering a robust and self-reliant e-mobility ecosystem in India,” said a GARC representative at the signing ceremony. “By providing access to our world-class facilities and technical guidance, we are helping to ensure that new players can bring high-quality, safe, and reliable products to market quickly and efficiently, thereby supporting the government’s vision for a greener transportation future.”
Easy Green Mobility, a subsidiary of the online travel technology platform EaseMyTrip, has ambitious plans to manufacture electric buses to meet the growing demand for sustainable public transportation.
The company has committed an investment of over Rs 200 crore to set up manufacturing facilities and support its R&D efforts.
“Partnering with a prestigious institution like GARC is a game-changer for us,” stated an EGM official. “This collaboration will not only streamline our product development and certification process but also instill greater confidence in our ‘Make in India’ products. We are confident that with GARC’s support, we will deliver technologically advanced and environmentally friendly electric buses that set new benchmarks for efficiency and passenger comfort.”
The MoU between GARC and EGM is the latest in a series of key partnerships aimed at boosting the country’s electric mobility sector.
The move comes as the industry sees a surge in collaboration, with recent developments including an MoU signed between Tata Motors and Green Energy Mobility Solutions to supply 100 state-of-the-art Magna EV intercity coaches, underscoring the strong momentum towards a sustainable transport ecosystem in India.
