The Delhi and Andhra Pradesh electricity regulatory commissions have eased the way for consumers looking to install solar rooftop installations by waiving fees for various processes.
The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has amended the existing guidelines for net metering for domestic consumers for installing solar rooftop systems. Under the revised guidelines, domestic users installing rooftop solar connections up to 10 kilowatts under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana will be exempt from paying the application fee for the feasibility analysis. Also exempt are registration charges, making it easier and more affordable for households to shift to clean energy.
Last month, the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) issued a similar order supporting the installation of home solar rooftop systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The commission has waived application fees, net metering costs, and the requirement for a net metering agreement for domestic consumers who install grid-connected solar rooftop systems of up to 10 kW capacity.
This is a part of a broader push to promote household use of cleaner fuels and solar energy and support the wider adoption of rooftop solar as energy demand rises across the country.
The amended guidelines in both states are expected to significantly reduce the financial burden on homeowners interested in installing rooftop solar panels. By removing upfront costs, more consumers will be encouraged to invest in solar energy, helping both states move closer to their renewable energy goals.
