In a strategic move to accelerate its international footprint, the Suzlon Group has announced the appointment of Paulo Fernando Soares as President – Europe.

The appointment is a cornerstone of the company’s Suzlon 2.0 strategy, which aims to move beyond traditional turbine manufacturing into end-to-end renewable solutions, including hybrid wind-solar-storage projects. Soares, who previously spent five years with Suzlon establishing its Asian operations, returns to the group to lead regional capability building and market access across the European continent.

Global expertise:

Paulo Soares brings nearly 40 years of experience in the wind energy sector, having held senior leadership roles at major Western and Asian OEMs, including a recent tenure as managing director at Sany Renewables. His career spans critical global markets such as Germany, Brazil, China, and Spain.

In his new role, Soares is mandated to develop a robust organizational framework to navigate Europe’s mature wind market, which currently faces a complex landscape of decarbonization targets and grid modernization requirements.

Suzlon 2.0 roadmap:

The appointment comes as Suzlon focuses on improving its levelized cost of energy (LCOE) by leveraging its 2.x MW and 3.x MW turbine series.

Under the Suzlon 2.0 roadmap, the company is targeting a significant slice of the global renewable market, which is projected to see nearly $150 billion in investments through 2030. By integrating Soares’ deep technical knowledge with Suzlon’s vertically integrated R&D centers in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark, the group aims to offer more competitive, lower-risk project execution for European utilities and developers.

Thought leadership:

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said, “We are happy to welcome Paulo back as Suzlon accelerates its global ambitions. With Europe being one of the largest wind energy markets, it represents a strategic growth opportunity for us. Paulo’s deep knowledge of wind technology, customers, and first-hand experience across multiple global markets will help our global growth strategy immensely.”

Paulo Fernando Soares, President, Europe, Suzlon Group, said, “I am excited to rejoin Suzlon and collaborate with its global and Indian leadership teams once again. Suzlon has been one of the earliest trailblazers in the wind energy industry and advocated for wind to get its rightful place in the global energy transition. Suzlon has a strong track record, reliable world-class technology, and international market experience, which will help us to expand its market share further.”
