Gujarat-based KP Group has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Botswana to develop 5 GW of renewable energy capacity.

The collaboration, valued at approximately ₹36,000 crore ($4 billion), focuses on utility-scale solar and wind projects, integrated energy storage, and high-voltage transmission infrastructure. The agreement aligns with Botswana’s national goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 and marks a major international footprint for the Surat-based group.

Strengthening bilateral energy ties:

The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and the KP Group entities, including KPI Green Energy, KP Energy, and KP Green Engineering.

The partnership follows the recent high-level diplomatic visit of Indian President Droupadi Murmu to Botswana, underscoring the growing clean energy synergy between the two nations. Beyond power generation, the project includes upgrading regional interconnections to position Botswana as a clean energy exporter within Southern Africa.

Commitments:

Commitment to local growth is a core pillar of the agreement, with KP Group pledging 30 annual scholarships to Botswana citizens. These scholarships will support advanced education and vocational training in engineering, sustainability, and renewable technology. This initiative is designed to foster knowledge transfer and empower a local workforce to manage the country’s long-term green transition.

Expansion:

The global announcement coincided with the virtual inauguration of KP Green Engineering’s Matar Facility in Bharuch, Gujarat, by Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi. Spread across 45 acres, the facility adds 2.94 lakh metric tons to the company’s annual production capacity.

Notably, it houses Asia’s largest galvanizing kettle, which will be instrumental in manufacturing the heavy-duty transmission towers and mounting structures required for large-scale international projects.
