RenewX 2025, South India’s premier renewable energy sourcing fair by Informa Markets India, catalyzed critical conversations and collaborations around India’s green transition.
Hosted at the Chennai Trade Centre, the three-day expo reflected the region’s longstanding commitment to sustainable energy. Following several impactful editions in Hyderabad, this shift also marks a thoughtful evolution and has received an encouraging response from industry stakeholders.
Key developments and sessions:
The expo caters to a diverse audience, including decision-makers, business leaders, project developers, investors, EPC contractors, consultants, and sustainability professionals, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and business growth.
Over the three days, more than 50 domain leaders have discussed global partnerships, emerging technologies, policy roadmaps, and financing models.
The Solar Installer Premier League, factory visit, and Bio-Energy Pavilion were part of the trade floor event designed to enhance engagement and sectoral insight. This year, the Bioenergy Pavilion was also a key event that emphasized the vital role of biomass, biogas, and waste-to-energy solutions in the region’s decarbonization journey.
Day 1 featured India-USA solar collaboration, green manufacturing, South India’s industrial base, hybrid solar systems, inverter technology, and disruptive solar solutions for a sustainable future.
Day 2 emphasized asset management, financial modeling, and solar technology innovation, focusing on module assembly, future-readiness, and storage.
On day 3, the expo focused on bioenergy, discussing the Bio-Hydrogen Revolution, biogas information classification policies, and socio-economic impacts, paving the way for a greener future.
Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets, India, said, “India is at a pivotal point in its energy journey, with more than 200 GW of renewable capacity already installed and with an ambitious target of 500 GW by 2030. The southern states are not only aligned with this national vision but are also charting their own path of innovation and leadership—Tamil Nadu with its wind capacity, Karnataka with solar, and other states accelerating through hybrid and distributed models. RenewX was envisioned as an information classification: general catalyst to this regional momentum, providing a platform that brings together industry, policy, and investment to drive real change.”
Industry voices:
Speaking at the inauguration, Amol Kotwal, Vice President, Energy & Environment Practice (South Asia), Frost & Sullivan, said, “The global shift toward alternative energy sources is both inevitable and accelerating. Solar energy is expected to command the lion’s share of future renewable investments. In India, robust policy frameworks—from PM-KUSUM to PLI, DCR, ALMM, and import duties—are catalyzing capacity growth in both wind and solar. What’s equally exciting is the rise of decentralized energy and alternate fuels, which are redefining the contours of our energy landscape.”
P. Siva Kumar, vice president of the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Developers Association, said, “Our focus is twofold—connecting manufacturers and distributors and bridging the skill gap that persists in the ecosystem. Through targeted training programs and knowledge-sharing webinars, we aim to empower our members with the expertise needed to support India’s renewable energy transition effectively.”
Ramesh Sivanna, president of the Karnataka Renewable Energy System Manufacturers Association, said, “RenewX has become a vital platform for collaboration and innovation. Southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are setting benchmarks—not just in capacity additions, but in pioneering renewable implementations and policy innovations that inspire the rest of the country.”
Sivaramakrishnan, president of the Kerala Renewable Energy Entrepreneurs’ and Promoters’ Association (KREEPA), said, “While Kerala’s renewable journey began with constraints, we are now rapidly making up ground. Our targets are ambitious—achieving RE 100 status by 2040 and carbon neutrality by 2050. With the upcoming Electricity Policy 2025, floating solar via PPP models, and the world’s largest Hydrogen Valley in Kochi, Kerala is charting a bold and sustainable path forward.”
Thiru M. Chandrasekhar, former chairman of the Tamil Nadu Regulatory Commission (TNERC), said, “Tamil Nadu has long been a trailblazer in renewables—from pioneering wind energy to leading in open access. Our forward-thinking policies, like yearly banking for wind, transformed the segment. As we now tackle evening peak challenges, storage—both pumped and battery-based—will play a crucial role. With 14,500 MW of pumped storage identified and a battery storage policy in place, TN is building a resilient and future-ready grid.”

Renjini Liza Varghese, Chief News Editor, esgnews.earth, said, “Between tech innovations, corporate resilience in a demanding market, and navigating policy and supply chain challenges, the takeaways were immense. Delighted to have played a role as media partners for such a critical industry gathering.”
This year’s edition, themed ‘Driving Renewable Energy Potential, Celebrating South India’s Legacy of Excellence,’ puts a spotlight on the region’s pioneering role in solar, wind, bioenergy, hybrid storage, EV infrastructure, and green hydrogen.
It brought together over 200 leading brands, over 50 eminent speakers, and more than 8,000 expected professionals from across the country, spotlighting Tamil Nadu and the southern region’s leadership in clean energy deployment, manufacturing, and innovation.
